I'm a lover for black coffee like lungo, americano, long black and a double espresso. The joy of having the 'kick' and high from caffeine helps to stay alert during my days working in the office. Two cups a day is perfect for me, one in the morning as a wake-up drink and another at lunchtime. Generally, recommendation is not to drink after 4pm as the effect of caffeine typically can last about 8 hours depending on the individual. This may affect their ability to sleep so it is best to avoid drinking caffeinated drinks later half of the day.
For the athletic purpose, many scientific papers have shown that the benefit of drinking coffee (or to be exact is caffeine) can raise the heart rate higher so that one can perform better physiologically. Also the effect of caffeine that excites the body sympathetic nervous system may help to temporarily mask the pain receptors during competition as one can push further in performance. However, bear in mind this can be a double-edged sword effect as it risks a higher rate of injury and breakdown.
Another useful benefit of drinking black coffee (without sugar) is that it raises the body's ability to metabolize fat instead of glucose (sugar). Hence a warm cup of lungo before your next morning jog might do the trick if you are into weight management programme. For marathoners, a fast-state (no meal) run in the morning with just coffee will train the body to use fat as the main source of fuel while conserving glucose for the later stage of a marathon and delay the onset of bonking (hitting the walls). Suggest that such experiment should be done sparingly and when there is a strong fitness developed in the foundation phase for experienced runners.
Anyway back to this topic of this portable coffee maker I purchased from this company called Wacaco. They developed the 2nd generation model called the nanopresso that has a max pressure of 16 bar, more than enough to make a single and double shots espresso. As my previous job required me to travel overseas frequently, I would love to bring my nanopresso along as I enjoyed bringing the grounded coffee powder that my taste bud is familiar with. Bringing it along for my oversea races, I need not worry where to buy a cup of coffee in the early morning as I can just make inside my hotel room. Now Wacaco also developed two new add-ons (1) Barista Kit (2) NS capsule adaptor which I also owned both of them. The advantages of the Barista Kit is that you use grounded coffee beans which has a fresher taste and you can dictate the amount of bean powder. Cleaning up is mild troublesome but still very easy. NS capsule adaptor advantage is that you just need to bring Nespresso capsules and overall it's much easier to operate and you have a wide range of coffee capsules to choice but taste is pretty much fixed. Both are great add-on parts to have and depending on situation's need. Below is a demo with Barista Kit for a double shots brew and do consider getting one set for yourself for your next outdoor trekking, trail running or overseas trips.
I also owned another portable coffee maker called "Aeropress". It makes more volume of coffee than Nanopresso and is a better option for Americano and long black but lack the thicker layer of crema. So both coffee makers have their pro and cons and I might make another video for Aeropress if there is good level of requests from you all.
Hope you enjoy the information and do share and "like" if you find the contents useful.
